After a NATO foreign ministerial meeting here, Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen told journalists Pakistan should take serious measures to address the issue.
He said: “It is a problem that militants can cross the border to conduct terrorist acts in Afghanistan before returning to their sanctuaries in Pakistan.”
Rasmussen said the rebel operations undermined efforts to improve the security situation. “So we have a common interest in an intensified fight against these cross-border activities.”
He called for a positive engagement of Pakistan if long-term peace and stability had to be ensured in Afghanistan and the wider region.
