KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Police detained eight militants, including two Pakistanis, during an operation in the restive Panjwai district of southern Kandahar province, an official said on Thursday.
The detainees had sneaked into the Talokan area to launch attacks on members of public uprising groups in Zangabad and Spirwan areas, the town’s administrative head said.
Haji Fazal Mohammad Ishaqzai said the detainees included two Pakistanis and Taliban’s shadow district chiefs for Zherai and Dand — Nasrullah Agha and Abdul Hadi.
The Pakistanis who belonged to Quetta, the capital of southwestern Balochistan province, could speak only English, he said. Their aim was to intimidate members of anti-Taliban militias in Panjwai.
He recalled one policeman was injured and one attacker killed in the Zangabad attack, in which a tractor and a police vehicle were torched.
