MAIMANA (PAN): Recent deadly attacks in the northern province of Faryab were led by Pakistani and Chechen insurgents, a senior official claimed on Thursday.
Up to 70 militants were killed in Qaisar district and 10 others, including three commanders, in Ghormach in past week’s assaults, Governor Mohammadullah Batash said.
He told a press conference here: “I believe Pakistan and Chechen fighters were among the dead,” he said. Six Afghan security personnel were also killed and six others wounded as a result of the assaults in Ghormach, Almar and Pakhtunkot districts.
He criticised the deployment of the Afghan Local Police force to Qaisar and Ghormach districts, alleging the personnel had been recruited in a hurry without guarantees of their good conduct from tribal elders.
