PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAN): Heavy floods washed away dozens of houses and damaged orchards in several villages of north Baghlan province, officials said on Saturday.
Unleashed by heavy rains, the flash floods wreaked havoc in 12 villages of Pul-i-Hesar district, where the worse-hit areas were Dehzak, Chaman and Lawak villages, according to the district administrative chief, Muallim Rajab.
He said the floods caused severe damage to residential houses and orchards and displaced a number of families, which needed urgent relief supplies.
Shah Hussain, one of the affected people, said his three gardens were destroyed by the floods that led his family to take refuge in a safe area. “I don’t know to what extent my gardens have been damaged.” H
Deputy Governor Abdul Qayyum said initial reports suggested 30 houses and 20 gardens had been damaged. A survey team has been dispatched to assess financial losses, he added.
