MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PAN party member in northern Samangan province on Thursday, blocking the main road between Mazar-i-Sharif and Pul-i-Khumri for two hours.
Acting head of the Jamiat-i-Islami in Samangan, Maulvi Abdul Wahid, and his associate Qari Inayatullah were killed by unidentified gunmen late last night, police chief, Brig. Gen. Mohammad Akram Bekzad, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The victims came under attack on their way home from a mosque. The overnight assassination provoked a large number of locals into the streets this morning, he said. Four people have been arrested in connection with the murder, Bekzad added.
Meanwhile, the provincial council head said the protestors carried the victims’ corpses. Police failed to prevent the angry residents from blocking the busy highway.
