KABUL): President Hamid Karzai on Monday strongly condemned a suicide attack that killed more than a dozen people in northern Baghlan province, including the provincial council head, Mohammad Rassoul Mohseni.

The blast outside the Provincial Council office in Pul-i-Khumri left another 10 people injured.

Baghlan Governor’s Office said a suicide bomber blew himself up outside the Provincial Council office, leaving 13 people dead, including Mohseni, and at least 9 others injured.

In a statement, Karzai called the attack a cowardly act against all Islamic teachings and human values, labeling its perpetrators as enemies of the people of Afghanistan who acted on orders from their foreign masters.

He said killing innocent civilians were anti-Islamic and inhuman, adding these evil acts could not undermine the determination of Afghan people to move forward in progress and protecting their country.

On recent terrorist attacks in Baghlan, Kandahar and Kabul, Karzai said Afghanistan was the land of sacrifices and devotions where the brave nation had never surrendered to any superpower throughout the history and would never do so in the future.

Karzai offered his deepest condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families and prayed for quick recovery of those wounded.
