PUL-I-KHUMRI/ HEART CITY (PAN): Three people, including a district crime branch police chief, were killed and four others were wounded during separate incidents of violence in Baghlan and Herat provinces, officials said on Thursday.
A civilian and an insurgent were killed and two security personnel were wounded in a hand grenade blast that took place on the outskirts of Pul-i-Khumri, the capital of Baghlan, police chief, Hafizullah Hakimi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The grenade was lobbed into a house after the security officials raided it in the Bagh Shamal area, he said.
In Herat, the crime branch police chief of Injeel district was killed in a gun attack in Pul-i-Aman area on the outskirts of Herat City.
The officer, Nazir Ahmad, was gunned down by two motorcyclists on his way to office in the district, a security official said on condition of anonymity.
He said Ahmad was a counter-terrorism police officer, who had additional charge of acting Injeel crime branch officer. The attackers managed to flee, but police had launched a search to arrest them, the official said.
Meanwhile, two women were injured in an insurgent attack in the fourth police district of Herat City on Wednesday night, police said. A doctor, Mohammad Rafique, said the women were in a stable condition.
