FAIZABAD (PAN): Police on Tuesday arrested five individuals, including a foreigner, on charges of planning suicide attacks in northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said.
The men were detained from a home in Faizabad, the provincial capital, the governor’s spokesman, Abdul Maroof Rasikh, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the detainees included a Kazakh national, who had a suicide vest strapped to his body. The remaining four belong to Badakhshan.
“They recently came from North Waziristan (Pakistan) and wanted to plan suicide attacks against government officials,” he said, adding some documents, a map and ammunitions had been discovered from the detainees.
Four months ago, a Kazakh member of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan was detained with sensitive documents and equipment in the Imam Sahib district of Kunduz province.
