KABUL on Friday said 13 militants were killed during joint operations with Afghan forces over the past 24 hours.
The notorious Taliban leader, Jilani, was killed during an operation in the Seyedabad district on Wednesday, the alliance said in a statement.
It said Jilani maintained operational control over a group of fighters responsible for attacks on Highway 1 against civilians, in addition to Afghan and coalition forces.
He also coordinated the movement of weapons in the local area for use in extremist activities and performed intelligence and reconnaissance duties for senior Taliban leaders.
Afghan troops, advised by coalition forces, killed five insurgents in Shindand district of western Herat province on Thursday, the statement said.
The insurgents attacked the joint forces as they conducted a presence patrol in the vicinity of Kushe village, south Zereko valley. Three Afghan forces were wounded during the engagement.
In southern Kandahar, eight insurgents were killed in the Maiwand and Khakrez district on Thursday.
