While welcoming guests to the embassy to mark an early celebration commemorating the 237th Independence Day of the United States of America, he also hailed the June 18 milestone, as Afghanistan took the lead on nationwide security.
He stated: “My many military and civilian colleagues who have worked with Afghanistan over the years are proud, and I am personally proud, that we have been able to contribute to the rebirth of this great nation.
“Our Strategic Partnership Agreement and even the construction here on the Embassy compound give expression to our commitment and enduring partnership,” the ambassador said in a statement.
Cunningham noted within the last 10 years, Afghanistan had conducted four elections at the national level. “The 2014 election will provide for the peaceful transition of political authority and for a new government that is accountable to its people. What Americans have achieved over many years will be achieved by Afghans over decades.”
