PUL-I-KHUMRI (PAN): A local policeman shot dead his brother’s wife in northern Baghlan province while four civilians were wounded in blast in southern Ghazni, officials said on Wednesday.
The Afghan Local Police (ALP) entered his brother’s house late on Tuesday and shot dead his sister-in-law in the Kohna Qala area of Baghlan-i-Markazi district, the crime branch chief said.
Col. Noor Gul told Pajhwok Afghan News the killer managed to flee after murdering his brother’s spouse, Jamila (24) due to a family dispute. Police are trying to arrest the killer, who misused his uniform and weapon in addition to committing murder.
The two brothers had a dispute over the distribution of land, said a resident of the area, Attiqullah. “Due to the row, the victim had asked her husband to leave the village. But the ALP official came here and shot her dead.”
Acting Director of Women’s Affairs Tahira Fazil strongly condemned the incident and stressed the immediate arrest of the killer.
Separately, four civilians were wounded on Wednesday when a bomb exploded in front of a girls’ high school in the Shah Meer area on the outskirts of Ghazni City.
Ghazni Civil Hospital Director Dr. Baz Mohammad Himmat told Pajhwok Afghan News the injured had been brought to the hospital and were in stable condition.
But witness Syedullah said seven people were injured, two vehicles destroyed and windowpanes of nearby houses smashed as a result of the blast. No one has so far claimed responsibility for the explosion.
