ASADABAD (PAN fighters were killed during a clash in the eastern Nuristan province, officials said on Friday.
The clash that erupted in the Gawardesh area of Kamdesh district on Thursday evening ended on Friday morning, a police official in neighbouring Kunar province said.
Narai district police province, Gul Zaman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the rebels seized three border police checkpoints, which security personnel recaptured as a result of a retaliatory attack.
Seven policemen were killed and as many others wounded in the firefight, which left five Taliban fighters dead and several others wounded, he said.
But Kamdesh district chief, Maulvi Abdul Rahman, said eight policemen were killed and 13 others wounded.
Meanwhile, a Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed that they captured six police checkpoints and killed 18 policemen in the attack.
