70-day soccer event concluded in Helmand

LASHKARGAH (PAN): The Haroon Popal Club has won a football tournament in southern Helmand province, an official said on Saturday.

Featuring 18 teams, the event got under way at the Karzai Stadium in Lashkargah 70 days, the provincial Olympic Committee head said.

Idris Alizai told Pajhwok Afghan News the Haroon Popal Club trounced the Qanun Club 2-0 in Friday’s final to emerge champions.

Moqam Yaran finished third, according to Alizai, who said the top10 sides would qualify for a national championship.

One key objective behind the tournament was to inculcate a positive sense of competition among youth and wean them from violence and drugs to sports, he added.
