The overnight raid killed Himmat, a regional Taliban leader, and 11 others, police chief, Brig. Gen. Zalmai Oryakhel, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

In eastern Nangarhar province, one fighter was killed and three others were wounded during a clash with police in Hesarak district late on Saturday night, said police spokesman Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal.
The clash broke out after the rebels attacked the district headquarters with heavy and light weapons. A civilian was also injured during the firefight, the police official said.
But resident Mohammad Naeem said one civilian was killed and another wounded during the skirmish, which came days after the district chief, Abdul Khaliq Maroof, warned the town could fall into the hands of insurgents.
