GARDEZ/KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Eight civilians were killed and 15 others wounded during separate bombings in southern Kandahar and southeastern Paktia province on Saturday, officials said.
Paktia police chief, Brig. General Zalmai Oryakhel, told Pajhwok Afghan News that a blast in the Sayed Karram district’s bazaar wounded 13 people just ahead of sundown.
The explosion occurred at a time when shopkeepers and ordinary people were returning home for Iftar. But a doctor at the district hospital, Asadullah, said they had received three dead bodies and 13 wounded individuals from the site. One child was among the dead, he added.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bombing, a weapon of choice for the Taliban insurgents.
Elsewhere in the south, five civilians were killed and three others wounded in similar attacks in Arghandab and Panjwai districts of Kandahar province. Both blasts happened shortly before Iftar.
In Arghandab, two residents were killed and three others wounded when the vehicle they were travelling in struck a roadside bomb in Deh Lahore area, the provincial police chief said.
A father and two of his sons died at 7: 20pm when their motorbike hit a roadside bomb in the Regwa area of Panjwai district, Brig. Gen. Abdul Raziq said.
