KANDAHAR CITY (PAN were killed during an operation by Afghan Special Forces and local police in the Panjwai district of Kandahar province, an official said on Sunday.
Javed Faisal, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants were killed in a gunbattle with Afghan Local Police personnel — backed by the Afghan Special Forces.
He said the rebels’ bodies were still lying at the scene of the overnight battle. At least two leading commanders were among the dead. Faisal said security forces and civilians remained unhurt.
Separately, a bomb explosion in the Spin Boldak border town left five civilians dead. The spokesman said the bomb exploded at a bus stand where people a large number of people had gathered.
Five civilians were killed and three others sustained injuries last evening when bombs went off in Arghandab and Panjwai districts.
