The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said : ” We can confirm three International Security Assistance Force service members died following an improvised explosive device attack in eastern Afghanistan today.”
It is ISAF policy to defer casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities.
But Attaullah Khogyani, a spokesman for the Maidan Wardak governor, confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News the assault happened in the Syedabad district of the restive province.
He said three foreign troops were killed along with n interpreter in the bombing, which wounded four Afghan National Army soldiers.
As usual, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the assault in Sultankhel area. A spokesman for the group, Zabihullah Mujahid, said 14 US soldiers were killed and many others wounded.
Resident Abdul Azim said the donkey-borne suicide bomber himself up near a convoy of Afghan and NATO soldiers.
So far during the current year, ISAF has lost more than 100 service members to suicide attacks and roadside bombings in different parts of the country.
