BAMYAN CITY (PAN’s only woman provincial chief executive, on Thursday voiced satisfaction with her selection for the Ramon Magsaysay Award in recognition of her services and good governance.

The Ramon Magsaysay Award is an annual award established in 1957 to perpetuate former Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay‘s example of integrity in government, services to the people and pragmatic idealism within a democratic society.

She was chosen for the award, which is considered Asia‘s Nobel Prize, because of her services to the masses working for environment, Governor Sarabi told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Her accolades showed women could successfully perform their duties, she said, adding the international community believed the Afghan government had been unable to increase women’s participation in the decision-making process.

“The award is not only for me, but it is for every Afghan. I feel it doesn’t belong to me alone,” the governor said. She is set to receive the award on Aug 31.
