KABUL, media and writers on Sunday paid glowing tributes to the late Dr. Saeed Niazi’s contribution as a noted social worker.
Dr Niazi, the director of Civil Society Development Centre, died in a road accident in the Tangi Abresham area on the Jalalabad-Kabul road on July 4.
During a meeting at the Liaison Office in Kabul, intellectuals, journalists and civil society leaders commended Niazi’s untiring efforts for promoting democracy and political pluralism in Afghanistan.
One of the speakers at the remembrance gathering, Eng. Aziz Rafiee described Niazi’s passing as an irreparable loss, saying he would always be remembered with respect.
Abdul Ghafoor Lewal, the Regional Studies Centre director, suggested the collection and preservation of the deceased’s works.
Other speakers asked civil society to introduce a Dr. Saeed Niazi Award to keep his name alive and inspire others into following in his footprints.
Appreciation letters from the US embassy and other Kabul-based organisations were presented to Niazi’s family members at the meeting.
Mansoor Niazi, a son of the former director of the Civil Society Development Centre, thanked the organisers and promised to take a leaf out of his illustrious father’s book.
