KABUL Affairs (MoEA) in New Delhi said on Saturday all Indian consulate staffers in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, were safe.
At least eight people were killed and 21 others wounded in a suicide attack on the consulate, officials said. A powerful blast, followed by intense gunfire, shook the consulate in the Amir Shaheed Bagh area at 10am.
The assailants fired their way into the heavily-fortified building after blowing up its main gate. Gunshot were heard in the locality for nearly an hour.
But the consulate workers escaped unhurt in the assault, MoEA spokesman Syed Akbaruddin Hindi told media representatives in Delhi. They were in contact with consulate and Afghan authorities, he said.
