Kabul desires peace, stability in Cairo

KABUL): Deputy Foreign Minister Ershad Ahmadi and his Egyptian counterpart Mahmoud Auf on Monday discussed expanding political and cultural relations investment and increasing the number of scholarships for Afghan students at Al Azhar University.

The current situation in Egypt and holding the first round of political consultations between the two countries also figured during the meeting at the Foreign Ministry in Kabul. They agreed on holding a meeting of the commission on cooperation.

On the situation in Egypt, Ahmadi said: “We are hopeful that an environment of harmony will be created among the political parties for transitioning through this sensitive and historic period so that the people can find an appropriate political solution.”

The Afghan people were supportive of international efforts for a peaceful resolution of the crisis in Egypt, a statement from the ministry quoted Ahmadi as saying. As Afghanistan had suffered a lot due to war and instability, it understood Egypt’s situation and desired stability there, he added.

Appreciating Afghanistan’s stance, Auf said he was hopeful all sides in Egypt would reach an agreement, solve the country’s domestic problems and create a system acceptable to all Egyptians.
