KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Four people were killed and 22 others wounded during a bomb explosion in the Ganj area of Kandahar City on Monday morning, an official said.
Javed Faisal, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the bomb had been placed in a handcart. The blast occurred at 9.30am, he added.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bombing in the Bagh Pul area, west of the southern city — the birthplace of the Taliban movement.
Meanwhile, President Hamid Karzai vehemently denounced the explosion. Targeting civilians in the holy month of Ramadan was against all Islamic and human norms, he said.
In a statement from his office, the president called the attack an act of enmity against Islam and extended his sincere condolences to the victims’ families.
