KABUL on Sunday, the military alliance said.
“Three International Security Assistance Force service members died following an enemies of Afghanistan attack in eastern Afghanistan today,” a statement from the ISAF said.
The nationalities of the fallen troops were not disclosed in the brief statement which said it was ISAF policy to defer casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities.
However, mostly US troops are stationed in the east. The BBC reported the attack took place in southeastern Paktia province, which borders Pakistan.
Sunday’s attack brings the NATO death toll in Afghanistan up to 114 this year. Compared to last year’s total of 402, that number has fallen sharply, mostly due to the fact that Afghan troops have taken over most of the day-to-day fighting.
