FARAH CITY (PAN): Three people were killed and as many wounded in a suicide attack in the Bala Baluk district of western Farah province on Saturday, officials said.
A former Jamiat-i-Islami commander, Zabit Khalil, was the bomber’s target, but he escaped unhurt in the attack, the governor’s spokesman said.
Abdur Rahman Zhwandai told Pajhwok Afghan News the assailant struck near a private hospital owned by the ex-jihadi commander.
The attacker blew himself up at about 11am when Khalil’s guards intercepted him at the entrance to the hospital, the spokesman added.
A local police commander and two guards of the jihadi leader were killed and three others wounded, according to Zhwandai, who said Khalil had had no government job.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
