HERAT CITY (PAN): Six workers of the National Solidarity Programme (NSP) have been kidnapped in the Gulran district of western Herat province on Monday, police said.
The kidnap victims included four engineers and two drivers, Herat police spokesman Col. Abdul Rauf Ahmadi told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Under NSP, a flagship initiative of the government, tangible development services have been delivered to rural communities across the country.
Col. Ahmadi said the NSP officials were kidnapped by armed motorcyclists near the district centre late on Sunday. Efforts were underway to secure the men’s safe release, he added.
Deputy Director of Rural Development Eng. Mohammad Qasim confirmed the incident, saying the men were serving the locals and had no political objectives.
