ISLAMABAD (PAN next month for talks with Afghan parliamentarians.
Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, the chairman of the Senate panel, told the upper house on Monday the trip would take place on Sept. 9.
President Hamid Karzai’s visit to Pakistan was significant for bilateral relations as well as peace and stability in the region, believed Syed, a former information minister.
Also heading the Pakistan-China Institute, he was speaking at a briefing on tripartite dialogue between think-tanks of China, Afghanistan and Pakistan held earlier this month.
Also on Monday, Karzai extended his daylong trip to Pakistan following Islamabad’s offer to help Afghanistan in holding talks with the Taliban.
At Tuesday’s talks, which are expected to take place in the tourist resort of Murree, will focus on fighting terrorism and talking to “reconcilable Taliban”.
Visiting Islamabad after 18 months, Karzai has sought Pakistan’s support for the Afghan-led reconciliation process and release of Afghan Taliban leaders from Pakistani prisons.
