HERAT CITY (PAN): More than a hundred kilograms of narcotics were set afire in northwestern Badghis province, while 20 people have been detained on different charges in western Herat, officials said on Monday.
Badghis Governor Ahmadullah Alizai told Pajhwok Afghan News police torched 107 kilograms of drugs they had seized over the past three months.
The governor said no one was allowed to grow poppy crops and warned drug smugglers of stern action if they did not wind up the illegal commerce.
His spokesman, Mirwais Mirzakwal said the drugs torched had been seized during a series of operations in Maqur district.
In Herat, police detained 20 people in connection with different crimes in Herat City over the past 24 hours, police official Col. Abdul Hamid Hamidi said.
He said some detainees were involved in creating problems for public and others had connections with insurgents and drug smugglers.
