GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Forty-eight militants have been killed during separate security operations and clashes in southern provinces past 24 hours, the Afghan military said on Thursday.
Twenty-nine fighters were killed during a joint Afghan-ISAF operation in southern Ghazni province on Wednesday night.
The joint forces and civilians stayed unharmed during the military action in the Jahangir area of Gilan district, the Afghan army’s 203rd Thunder Military Corps said in a statement.
It said a dozen more insurgents were killed during a NATO airstrike in the Baraki Barak district of central Logar province.
Up to seven rebels suffered casualties during clashes with Afghan National Army (ANA) troops in Jalrez district of central Maidan Wardak province.
Ten Taliban, including foreigners, were killed during a last night clash with police in southern Ghazni province, secretary to the provincial governor, Nabi Jan, told Pajhwok Afghan News. The clash broke out in the Bazgi area of Aab Band district.
But a Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed the fighters had killed a dozen policemen in Ghazni’s Andar district, a claim the district chief denied.
