ISLAMABAD (PAN over cross-border mortar fire into the Waziristan tribal region.
A day earlier, six mortar shells fired from Afghanistan landed in the Ghulam Khan sub-district of North Waziristan, killing two civilians and injuring a third inside their house.
The Afghan Charge d’affaires was called to the Foreign Office in Islamabad and a strong protest was lodged over the unprovoked mortar fire by the Afghan border police.
“While conveying its serious concern at this cross-border fire, the Pakistan government asked the Afghan authorities to prevent the recurrence of such incidents,” the Foreign Office said.
According to a statement from the ministry, it was emphasized again such incidents undermined the border coordination and cooperation mechanism in place and were detrimental to cooperative ties between the two countries.
