KABUL last year, the Australian defense chief said on Wednesday.

Hekmatullah, the former ANA sergeant, was detained by the Inter-Services Intelligence in February, Defense Force Chief Lt. Gen. David Hurley said. The alleged attacker was recently deported to Afghanistan.

Hurley said in a statement: “Overnight, he was deported to Afghanistan where he is expected to face trial. We have been relentless and determined in our efforts to pursue those who have murdered and wounded our people,”

The ANA sergeant has been accused of shooting dead his three Australian partners inside a patrol base north of Tirinkot, the capital of Uruzgan province, on Aug. 29, 1012. At least two other soldiers were injured in the shooting.
