The epicenter of the 4.9 magnitude earthquake was in Badakhshan province near the border with Tajikistan at a depth of 114.9 kilometres, according to the United States Geological Survey.
According to DawnNews, monitored here, Pakistan’s local meteorological department put magnitude of the earthquake at 5.6 on the open-ended Richter scale.
It said northwestern areas in Chitral, Swat and Lower Dir districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province were jolted. But there were no reports of casualties or damage.
