KABUL has called for an immediate end to drone strikes on its soil, saying the attacks are impinging on the war against terrorism and causing human suffering.
“The use of armed drones in border areas of Pakistan is a continued violation of our sovereignty, international law and international human rights and humanitarian law,” a Pakistani diplomat said.
Ambassador Masood Khan told the General Assembly’s sixth Legal Committee on Monday, he said the use of drones led to casualties among innocent men, women and children.
The Associated Press of Pakistan news agency quoted the ambassador as saying the raids were also detrimental to efforts at combating extremism and terrorism.
Reprisals by terrorists were taking a heavy toll on civilians, Masood Khan said, adding the complex challenge of terrorism defied simplified solutions and that a piecemeal effort would not eliminate the scourge.
