KABUL): (PAN): A dozen people, including civilians, have been killed and as many injured during clashes and roadside bomb attacks across the country, officials said on Tuesday.
Five militants were killed and six others wounded during a military operation in the Sherzad district of eastern Nangarhar province on Monday morning.
Col. Noman Hatifi, the 201st Selab Military Corps spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that two soldiers were also injured during the offensive codenamed “Shaheen-19.”
But resident Nabi Gul claimed two civilians were also wounded.
A Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed 15 policemen were killed and eight others wounded during attacks in Sherzad and Khogyani districts.
In central Maidan Wardak, police detained eight militants on the outskirts of Maidan Shahr, the provincial capital and in Syedabad district, the governor’s house said in a statement.
The statement said three civilians, including two women and a child, were killed and four others wounded in a car accident in Behsud district late on Sunday.
A roadside bomb ripped through a vehicle near the provincial capital, killing three occupants near Maidan Shahr, the statement continued. The blown up vehicle belonged to a construction company.
Elsewhere, a civilian was killed when a remotely-controlled bomb was exploded in the capital of southern Ghazni province early Tuesday morning.
Police chief Col. Asadullah Insafi confirmed the blast in Hakim Sanayee area, saying they had opened an investigation.
