KABUL): Sixteen militants and three Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers have been killed in security accidents in different parts of the country over the past 24 hours, officials said on Tuesday.
Eight fighters were killed in the Murghab district of Badghis province, Border Police Commander Gen. Sher Ahmad Maldani told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the Taliban stormed a border police post in Joiganj area, sparking a three hours clash that resulted in the killing of the attackers.
In western Herat province, five insurgents were killed and seven others injured near the Iranian border late on Tuesday, according to Maldani, who said two policemen were also wounded in the clash.
Major Haroon Yousafzai, a spokesman for the ANA 201st Selab Corps said a military patrol was attacked with a remote-controlled bomb in eastern Kunar province. The overnight explosion killed three soldiers and wounded two others.
Elsewhere in the country, two people were injured in an explosion inside a mobile phone shop in Ghazni City. Deputy police chief Col. Asadullah Insafi said the injured were in stable condition.
Meanwhile, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the fighters assaulted an ANA tank in the Manogai district of Kunar, killing of five soldiers.
