HERAT CITY (PAN): Four road construction workers were released by their captors on Sunday, two days after they were kidnapped in the Karkh district of western Herat province, an official said.
The four went missing on Friday while travelling home on the under-construction Herat-Badghis ring road. They were released by their captors in an uninhibited area and it appeared they had been seized by car-lifters, a security official said.
A month back, 10 workers of a construction firm were killed by armed attackers while asleep in Karkh town, 45 kilometres north of Herat City.
Meanwhile, Herat police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Hamid Hamidi told reporters the body of a man kidnapped 17 days ago was found in the Ghoryan district on Sunday.
He said four suspects, including a woman, had been detained in connection with Farid Ahamd’s kidnap-murder case. He said Ahmad was murdered despite the payment of ransom money to the kidnappers.
Relatives postponed Ahmad’s funeral prayers in protest, asking the government to arrest and punish his killers.
