LASHKARGAH (PAN): The governor on Sunday claimed nearly 21 insurgents had been killed during separate clashes with security forces during Eidul Adha holidays, when several terrorist attacks were foiled.

Mohammad Naeem told a press conference in Lashkargah, the provincial capital, the Taliban had the intention to carry out roadside bomb and other terror attacks in Lashkargah and other districts, but failed to reach their nefarious designs.

The governor said Afghan security forces, particularly police, had become more professional compared to the past.

He said 21 insurgents were killed during clashes with police over the past few days and nearly a dozen bodies of rebels remained on the battlefield.

He explained half a dozen insurgents, including a commander named Mullah Malik, were killed in Sangin, five in Marjah, eight in Nad Ali and two in Musa Qala districts.

In Nad Ali, he said the insurgents wanted to poison and then kill security personnel manning a post, but the forces received prior information about the plot. The security personnel entered a clash with the insurgents and killed eight of them.

Naeemi said security incidents had declined in Helmand as compared the past years, thanks to people’s cooperation.

However, a Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi claimed a number of Afghan security personnel were killed and wounded in roadside bomb and gun attacks in Nad Ali and Nawzad districts.
