ISLAMABAD (PAN border, officials said on Thursday.
A local tribal administration official, requesting not to be named, told Pajhwok Afghan News the drone fired two missiles at a compound in the Zafar Town area near Miranshah bazaar, the agency headquarters.
He feared the number of casualties might increase, as the injured were in critical condition. The compound was used by suspected militants, the official added.
This is the first drone attack following Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to the United States and his meeting with President Barack Obama. Sharif called for an end to the strikes on Pakistani territory.
A day earlier, the defence ministry informed the Senate that 67 civilians had been killed in drone strikes since 2008, a figure contradicting the numbers previously released by the government and rights groups.
There have been 317 drone strikes in Pakistan since 2008, killing 2,160 militants and 67 civilians, according to the ministry, which said no innocent non-combatant had been killed in the strikes since January 2012.
