ASADABAD (PAN, in eastern Kunar province, an official said on Saturday.
Sadatullah Mirza, who is responsible for public awareness programmes at the Independent Election Commission (IEC) office in Kunar, told Pajhwok Afghan News mobile teams had been tasked with issuing voter cards to residents of remote parts in addition to registration centres in district centres.
Mirza said the ongoing registration campaign had been successful and hitch-free so far in the provincial capital, Asadabad, and districts. He added a total of 33,300 women had obtained voter cards, constituting 39 percent of those having received the cards.
Half of 36 teams tasked with distributing voters cards to women, he said, adding it was a door-to-door campaign.
An Asadabad dweller, Shafiqa, confirmed obtaining the card. She said her family had no objection to her receipt of the voter card and her relatives had also received them.
A Marawara district resident, Gul Nazir, said the mobile team in their area distributed voter cards to people on a daily basis without confronting any problem. However, he complained residents of remote and mountainous parts remained deprived of the cards.
