MAZAR-E-SHARIF (PAN groups across the country met here Tuesday to mull over ways of enhancing coordination ahead of next year’s elections.
The gathering was held at the High Peace Committee office in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of Balkh province, to discuss option of forging unity among various civil society organisations.
Participant from Samangan, Ghor, Badghis, Jawzjan and other provinces attended the meeting.
Mohammad Hassan Hakimi, a Ghor civil society activists and organiser of the event, told Pajhwok Afghan News the meeting was aimed at creating close understanding among different groups.
Holding such meetings would help resolve the problems being faced by activists, he hoped, calling the heavy presence of militants a threat to the upcoming elections in Ghor province.
Civil society groups had been striving to convince people to take part in the ballot and was trying to avoid officials’ interference in the polls, he added. He called for greater with the media in ensuring free and fair elections.
Roohullah, a Samangan civil society activist, said: “I hope such meetings will help build stronger relations among civil society groups, which will pave the way for independent elections.”
Nasrullah, a member from Baghlan, said they had plans to bolster coordination among youth as the province was facing problems in the education sector.
