Karzai seeks more British defence support from Pajhwok Afghan News.

KABUL (PAN): President Hamid Karzai on Monday inaugurated the first-ever batch’s admission to the British-built Military Academy in Kabul as an effective step toward enhancing Afghanistan’s defense capability, urging the UK for more assistance. Speaking on the occasion at the Afghan National Army (ANA) Academy, Karzai said it was a pleasure to note the concrete step toward boosting country’s defence prowess. “There are countries in our neighborhood, such as India and Pakistan, whose military officials have undergone military training from UK personnel. We better know their talent, importance and professional capacity; this is because UK is cooperating with them.” He asked Britain to help enhance ANA’s capacity, just like it supported the military officials of Afghanistan’s neighbours. Afghan soldiers should make use of the training imparted by UK experts, the president stressed. Karzai remarked: “We have passed through hard times, not because of lack of courage, bravery and sacrifices. We are the bravest people in the world ready for sacrifice. But we face problems, because we are an underdeveloped and needy nation, with no good training opportunities.”
