PUL-I-ALAM (PAN): International Security Assistance Force (ISAP) troops have detained five people, including a tribal elder, during an operation in central Logar province, residents claimed on Tuesday.
Resident Javed Hashimi said the foreign soldiers blew out civilian houses’ doors in the Hoti Syedan village on the outskirts of Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital, during the overnight operation.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News tribal elder Malik Shirin was among the five people taken away by NATO-led service members. He insisted the detainees were local people with no links to the insurgents.
Another resident of the area, Mohibullah, said they had been awake all night as helicopters hovered over their village and American troops walked up and down the streets.
But the governor’s spokesman, Din Mohammad Darwish, said he was unaware of the raid.
According to another report, two militants were killed and five people, including two policemen, injured during a clash on the outskirts of Shiberghan, the capital of northern Jawzjan province, on Monday night.
Police chief, Col. Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani, confirmed the incident and said the incident took place in the Mangoti village on the periphery of the city. Civilians suffered no casualties, he said.
