SHARAN (PAN): Seven children were killed and five others wounded in a landmine explosion in southeastern Paktika province on Monday, an official said.
The casualties occurred in the Malizi area of Khairkot district in the afternoon when the children playing in the locality stepped on a landmine, the governor’s spokesman said.
Mukhlis Afghan told Pajhwok Afghan News the blast left seven children dead and seven others wounded. The injured were evacuated to hospital.
Some of the injured are in critical condition, according to the gubernatorial spokesman, who feared the death toll could increase.
He blamed the blast as the handiwork of Taliban, but there was no immediate reaction from the insurgent movement.
