SHIBERGHAN (PAN interest.
Hundreds of students took part in the demonstration on the Jawzjan University campus, denouncing some parts of the security deal and calling the consultative Loyar Jirga as illegal.
A protesting student, Bahadur, said the Loya Jirga was illegal in the presence of lower and upper houses of parliament.
“We vehemently denounce immunity for American troops and their searches of Afghan houses because all these are against the Sharia law,” said the student, who warned of continued demonstrations until the government reviewed the controversial articles.
Another student, wishing not to be named, believed Afghanistan and its people would achieve greater development if the BSA was inked.
As he called the consultative Loya Jirga on the bilateral deal an important development, others students did not allow him to speak more in favour of the deal.
Provincial police chief, Col. Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani, said some elements were behind the students’ protest.
The university vice-chancellor, Eng. Mohammad Hashim Siddiqui, said the demonstrators blocked the university’s main gate and did not allow lecturers and other students to enter the campus.
Nearly, 4,500 students, including girls, have been studying in the university.
