MICT, AISA sign cooperation MoU

KABUL Investment Support Agency (AISA) on Wednesday inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation and a long-term partnership.

Minister Amirzai Sangin told the signing ceremony in Kabul the MoU would help strengthen technology and communications services and create job opportunities for people.

In reference to achievements made in areas of information technology and communications sector over the past decade, Sangin said mobile phone services had been extended to all areas of the country, except some insecure parts.

The fiber optic network had been extended to most provinces connecting them with the rest of the world, he said.

The minister said the 3rd Generation (3G) technology had also been made available in many provinces and would be extended to 80 percent areas of the country over the next one year

Sangin continued mobile banking service and money transfer via cell phones had newly been introduced and only limited people used the services.

“The current telecommunications services we have in the country are insufficient compared to other countries,” he said.

AISA head Wafiullah Iftikhar said the MoU was important towards attracting investment in the IT and communications fields.

“Tasks earlier performed by many departments now can be done by a single department, which accelerates working process and saves time,” he added.
