KABUL’s faltering peace process through sincere cooperation by pushing for formal negotiations.
In a radio speech to the nation, Karzai said he would sign the bilateral security agreement (BSA) if their demands were considered and the people of Afghanistan felt themselves secure and in peace.
A statement issued from the Presidential Palace quoted the president as saying the people of Afghanistan wanted the security agreement with the US and the deal had been endorsed by the consultative Loya Jirga.
Keeping in view the Loya Jirga’s recommendations and decision, Karzai said they had some conditions for the protection of Afghanistan’s interests and the US had to make required pledges in this regard under the agreement.
“Our people in every nook and corner of the country do not feel secure in their homes. That’s why we have long been opposed to raids on civilian homes. We can have peace and security when we are able to stop foreign forces from conducting operations in our villages and cities. This provides the basis for our condition of the protection of Afghan homes.”
“Our second condition as mentioned in the consultative Loya Jirga’s declaration is durable peace. Our people have suffered for years due to insecurity and fighting and lost lives and belongings to the war. Our people want eternal peace and tight security. We ask the US to work with a commitment with Afghanistan towards these goals…”
