NEILY (PAN): More than one hundred people, coming all the way from Khadir district to this provincial capital of central Daikundi province, have been protesting in front of the governor’s house since Friday against the detention of a local by the district’s attorney.
They say Mohammad Ali Haidari was detained three days ago after a local commander directed the attorney to do so.
One of the protestors, Jan Mohammad Muhseni, said they ended their protest on Saturday at 9:00pm and resumed protesting this morning for a third day in a row. He claimed 50 protestors have so far been hospitalised after their condition deteriorated due to extreme cold weather conditions.
He said a powerful individual killed two persons in Khadir two months back, but no one dared to arrest him, while Haidari had been detained despite committing no crime.
“We will part our ways with the government if it fails to ensure justice,” he warned.
Another protestor, Chamran, said Haidari was detained after being invited for a meeting with the district attorney, adding they would continue to protest until their demands were met.
But Deputy Governor Habibullah Radmanish said Haidari was detained after the prosecutor’s office received complaints against him about his involvement in kidnappings and illegal activities.
