JALALABAD (PAN): The governor of eastern Nuristan province on Monday said he escaped unhurt in a gun attack involving armed insurgents, but his secretary and a guard were injured.
Tamim Nuristani told Pajhwok Afghan News he along with some officials was heading to the Noragam district when insurgents ambushed their convoy in Parwai area around 11am, sparking a fierce gun-battle with police escorting the convoy.
The clash lasted one hour, said Nuristani, who said his secretary and the guard were injured by broken glasses and steel in vehicles.
The governor said the attack had already been planned as their convoy was ambushed all of a sudden as they reached the area. He said the injured persons were in stable condition.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the attack on Nuristani, but he had no information about casualties.
