JALALABAD (PAN): Four people, including a policeman, died after being hit by an avalanche in eastern Nuristan province, an official said on Monday.
The incident took place in Kosht area on the outskirts of Paroon, the provincial capital, on Sunday evening, provincial police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Baqi Nuristani told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The victims — three civilians and a policeman – were walking in the area when hit by the plume of snow.
Nuristani said police, who reached the scene, were able to recover the bodies of all victims.
However, a resident of Paroon city, Rassoul Gul, said it was not a large avalanche, but the four wanted to reach another area through a canyon.
This was the first snow avalanche causing casualties this winter.
