SKorea pledges $43m in aid to Afghanistan

To the effect, South Korean Ambassador Young-Cheol signed an agreement with a representative from the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) at a ceremony held in Kabul.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Cha said: “We are committed to supporting Afghanistan in ensuring progress on gender equality, protection of women’s rights, and their empowerment.”

The ambassador stressed greater focus on issues concerning maternal health, development in women’s entrepreneurship, skills and elimination of violence against them.  

He said his country wished a strong Afghanistan, where governments in provinces were held accountable.

He said they wanted Afghans to have all basic services and progressing on their socio-economic front.

Korea suffered from violence and extreme poverty half a century ago, but support from the international community enabled it to successfully overcome its challenges.
