KABUL): President Hamid Karzai on Thursday said that the issue of Kabul-Islamabad mistrust could be addressed by an effective joint struggle against the menace of terrorism and extremism.
The president underlined the need for combined efforts against the common threat during a meeting with Pakistani and Afghan parliamentarians at his office.
A statement from the Presidential Palace said the delegation briefed Karzai on the just-concluded two days dialogue. Nine rounds of the dialogue have been held so far.
Led by the Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) chief, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, the team discussed with Karzai ways of overcoming the trust deficit and paving the way for greater understanding between the two countries.
“Although people-to-people contacts between the two nations are satisfactory, the war and insecurity are the only factor behind bilateral mistrust. The two governments, therefore, should fight jointly against terrorism and extremism,” Karzai said.
